I wanted to write what I have been saying to you for a while.
I know that seeing words on a page makes the comments more concrete and I want you to know how valuable you have been to our team and to me personally.

A long overdue assignment was searching for the curriculum designer who could create a Train the Trainer program for the Diversity Champion Workshop. No easy task!
We had been searching for the right person and when we finally found you, I was delighted. You took every request that I made and incorporated my wish into our training for MGM MIRAGE. You made the Train the Trainer experiential, included Learning Styles, and created a context for every module. You coached the participants, and had them become comfortable with themselves, and then taught them how to present authentically.

You then presented the program. You took a course that had previously been an 18-month memorization course and transformed it into an absorbable program in 12-weeks!

All of the participants grew in such profound ways that it was like watching a DVD on Fast Forward. They not only grew, they loved growing, and throughout the process they became more human and less reactive and robotic. It was an inspiration to observe their development as people as well as trainers.

Personally, my life is transformed. I am living the life I had previously dreamed of for 10 years. I am spending more time with my family, and I am working on projects that are fulfilling and I know that I am making a difference.

My last 90 days with you have been really terrific – when I got into this program, I had high hopes. And coming off it now, I can say that the real experience was even better. I have been most impressed and influenced by your ability to actively listen, and pick up hidden “issues” or “emotions” and then you making me see it.

You have helped me immensely in my chosen area of coaching – and I was often surprised how much you of “yourself” you brought in the discussion to make a difference. That takes absolute commitment to coaching, and takes courage – I have seen many teachers who tell or everyone else who has a view. In 1977, long before having a “life coach” was something commonly discussed at Starbucks, Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott published her first book on the subject and began a career that eventually, would find her labeled, “The Mother of Coaching.” New Species (published in 1978) was to become the first of many books Dr. Scott would write on personal development. This was one of the best books I have read on everlasting love. So in search of something more meaningful than what I had been experiencing in my relationships, I had an earnest desire to finally figure out what was going on inside of me, that had me feeling so empty inside my relationships.

First and foremost, this book helped me wrap my mind around the idea that loving relationships require a commitment by both parties involved in order for it to be fulfilling, loving and everlasting. This ‘feeling’ that I was after was not a thing I could draw out from others alone. This ‘feeling’ I was after was one that was weaved together out of a union that only two committed, mature and loving adults could produce.

This book lays the ingredients out on the line for its readers, and makes it very easy to understand where so many of us go wrong. So many of us forget why we fell in love with our partners, and once the ‘enchantment’ has faded, we feel lost, or detached from our partners. Rather than focus on our relationships by deliberately drawing our minds to what is right about our partners, we sometimes fade into the growing abyss between us, and move further out of love, than into it.

After my divorce, I read this book because I wanted to arm myself with as much information as possible about real love, because that is what I was now aiming for.

I am happy to say, that after twelve years of perfecting my ideas about love, including and most importantly ‘self love’, I am happily engaged to my equal. He and I are playing by the rules, and that is making all the difference in our lives. It feels so good to finally get it right..

I highly recommend this book.

Negaholics

The book is helping me reform from being so negative about everyone and everything. The time I spend thinking about a situation is helping me learn to control my temper, and I would no longer rate my anger at the point of being hostile.

My only disapppointment was that the expedited shpping I paid for did not meet my hopes and expectation. It still took a week to reach Tucson from California. It was a small disappointment and does not change my rating for the product or the people I purchased it from. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to others.

Human Beings are creatures of habit. You prefer familiar, predictable, stable, and controllable circumstances. You at least like the feeling of being in control, even if it is not completely accurate. Transitions can be unsettling…for anyone.

Coaching Session

When circumstances change, they can cause a little wrinkle, a speed bump, or even a total “Life-quake.” Whether you set your own goals, like lowering your golf score, learning a new language, or becoming an outstanding presenter, it is easier to orchestrate and manage the change process when you are in the driver’s seat. When change happens to you, you can easily feel like you are bouncing around in the trunk of someone else’s car. It may be a positive change, as in a job promotion where training and computer skills are necessary for the job, and you feel as if you are in over your head. It could be a change dealing with circumstances that are out of your control, a burnout, a company merger, restructuring, layoffs, or a transfer to a different location; it is at those times, that doubt, uncertainty, overwhelm, and anxiety can easily ensue.

A coach helps clients determine their vision, strategy, action plan, and then supports them in the realization of the next chapter of their lives. Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott envisioned coaching as a profession in 1974, when she started The MMS Institute specializing in coaching and training professionals.

Dr. Cherie realized that the skills required to coach were very different from consulting, advising, and mentoring. As a response to significant demand, Dr. Cherie designed and presented the first MMS Coach Training in the US in 1975 in San Francisco; later in 1990 MMS Coach Training expanded to Europe; then in 2010 MMS Coach Training expanded to Asia. MMS is the oldest Coach Training organization in the world, and today continues to train some of the most effective Coaches alive today.

The MMS Certified Coach asks open-ended questions, suspends judgment, creates a safe environment encouraging the client to use his imagination and explore his options. The coach has no agenda, nor does she know what the best option for the client is. The MMS Coach doesn’t provide his own advice, guidance, or good ideas, like a mentor does.

Humans are creatures of habit. We like familiar, predictable, stable, controllable circumstances. Transitions can be unsettling…for anyone.

When circumstances change, they can cause a little ripple, vertigo, or even a full-scale “Life-quake.” Whether we set our own goals, like getting in shape, lowering our golf score, or becoming an excellent presenter…when change happens, as in a new job opportunity where new skills are required for the job, doubt, uncertainty, overwhelm, and even low-level anxiety can easily enter one’s thoughts.

In order to navigate through the opportunities, threats, risks, and benefits, it is essential to have an objective, focused, and supportive coach who can ensure steady progress. The environment must be safe, judgment-free, and creative in order for the person to discover their best option. The process is short-term and results-oriented. Initially, the transition is communicated, the options and alternatives are explored, and a choice is made taking all factors into consideration. After the choice has been determined, a plan is formulated based on motivation, capability, ramifications, and time factors. At this point the coach stays closely connected to the client to provide support and assessment at each juncture… whether it be to offer support when plans are obstructed, encouragement when required, or validation when results are produced. The coach is a trusted, confidential, and safe professional who possesses exceptional listening skills, coupled with finely tuned intuition and “empathetic un-attachment” to empower the client to grow from the transition presented.
